The Men and Women’s Golden Eagles soccer clubs are enjoying success heading into the heart of their respective schedules.
Last year the Ladies went 14-2-2 and went all the way to the Region IV Championship game. Fast forward to this year and they’re 4-2-1 and on a 3 game winning streak, and perfect at home (1-0).
They’re set to play the Joliet Junior College Wolves at home on Wednesday. The Lady Wolves are 7-1 and just suffered their first loss of the season. Despite the loss and only scoring a goal in each of their past two games, they are an offensive juggernaut on paper. They have 6.5 goals per game average (GPG)! It will be a test of the Golden Eagles’ defense to keep them at or under 1. It’s possible as the last two games have panned out.
The Wolves last loss came against Madison College Wolfpack, who has a 5 GPG, 2-1. The Lady Eagles (3.14 GPG) lost to Madison College as well, but the score was 1-0. These teams are really good and play competitively against each other. This will be a key game in the season and a fun one to watch.
The Men’s record is 6-2-1, and their record last year was 9-6-2. The Eagles face the Madison College Wolfpack on Wednesday in Madison. The Wolfpack is 5-3 and they have already had a one up on the Eagles men’s team from a 3-0 win in Rockford. Although the Wolfpack has lost two straight while the Golden Eagles have won 2 in a row.
The men are faring slightly better than they were at this point last year at 5-3-1. As they journey into the depths of their schedule it will be interesting to see if they can carry the momentum forward from their win streaks towards another successful season.
Currently, as the records stand and the schedule displays, this fun season is worth cheering along.
