Rock Valley College came together Tuesday afternoon to celebrate the Golden Eagles Softball team winning their fifth straight championship in a row! They defeated the Herkeimer County Generals 6-2 in the Championship game to achieve their hard-earned trophy. On the season the Golden Eagles went 52-9 with an impressive 19-0 record at home. This is Coach Monroe’s fifth (straight) championship, and RVC’s 20th championship as a college. Under Athletic Director Misty Opat’s reign the college has accumulated 13 of the 20 championships.
At the celebration, President Jensen gave a speech about their hard work during the season and how it pays off in the end. A.D. Misty Opat gave a fun message about how winning championships, “Never gets annoying, and never gets old!” Coach Monroe then gave the audience insight on how the ups and downs of the season built the team to compete down to the very end. Lastly, a few of the transferring players gave encouragement to the upcoming leaders of the team going into next season.
Later that night at the Board of Trustees meeting the Softball team was officially recognized and congratulated in front of the board.
Kudos to the terrific season! The future is bright for the transferring players as well as the ones who will lead the college into the next exciting year. Congratulations!
