These two athletes might be the future of boxing. Both have great skill, great power with their hands, and good footwork. The first boxer that will be talked about is Ryan Garcia. Garcia is 22 years old and competes in the Lightweight division. He is also the WBC interim Lightweight Champion. Garcia is 21-0 and has tremendous power with hands of stone. He has won several of his matches by knockout. For example, Garcia knocked out Romero Duno on September 18th in 2019 in the first round for the WBC Silver Lightweight title. On February 14th, 2020 Garcia had another knockout victory in the first round against Francisco Fonseca with seven punches and a left hook. His latest fight was against Luke Campbell on Jan 2nd this year; he beat Luke Campbell by throwing an amazing lefthook.
Now onto the next fighter: Marc Castro. He is 21 years old coming out of Fresno, California. He’s an up-and-coming Super Featherweight boxer. He has fought against Luis Javier Valdes, but Castro has great potential with a good boxing offense. In that match, Castro kept going at him and Mark ended up knocking out Valdes with a right hand for Castro’s first win. Marc’s friend, Peter Tavares, commented on what drives Marc to become a better fighter and who he is as a person.
Peter Tavares met Marc Castro when he was 10 years old through boxing. He says Marc trains “mostly the whole week.” and says that while he wasn’t around the training camp for Marc’s first fight, his goals are more so focused on the longevity of his future career in boxing and to do it “as long as he can.” “Marc’s a bit shy, but he’s humble and a driven individual.” Tavares also believes the sky’s the limit for Marc.
It is fair to say these two have shown enough potential to have great futures in the world of boxing.
