A world of vast creatures with amazing abilities can be in the palm of your hand. Pokémon Trading Card Game releases new cards every couple of months.
On March 16th, Top Cut Comics held a pre-release for players to get new cards early. People locally and from out of town came to the shop to play and collect. This set is particularly exciting because players are now excited for a couple of top-tier decks to rotate out of the meta. Temporal Forces is a new set that started selling in stores on March 22.
The event nearly had 40 players. They would receive booster boxes that contained 40 cards plus 4 extra packs with 10 cards each. Each player created a deck with 40 cards to battle with. The goal was to win using the new cards.
Not all players were excited about battling. Some players were just looking to collect the expensive cards within the set. They also searched for specific cards to make decks that are currently in the standard meta.
A local player, Wyatt Rouleau, said, “Pre-releases are very fun and exciting to go to. Personally, I am excited to collect the most expensive cards in the set. The artwork behind the cards is what really excites me”.
“These events are what I live for,” Suzanne Northridge, a longtime player and Pokémon judge, said. “Seeing everyone come together to be excited about the new cards warms my heart. The children that show up to play to be a part of the Pokémon community is what makes this worthwhile.”
No matter what kind of set is released many people will come to enjoy the event. Adults and kids come together to have fun, collect the newest cards before anyone else can, and battle people competitively.
Temporal Forces isn’t the only set players looked forward to. Twilight Masquerade is set to be released at the end of May and will feature 170 cards. As seen today for Temporal Forces, Twilight Masquerade will have the same pre-release event where players come to enjoy the new cards and the friendly atmosphere.
